Ever since I was just a little boy I have always wanted to go to college for law enforcement. I didn’t end up going to college for the dream job I wanted but, this is why I chose the major I did. I will explain to you what I wanted to go to school for and why, what my current major is, and why I chose my current major building utilities mechanics. As a little boy I wanted to go to college for law enforcement. I have always liked helping other people. This was my dream job, as I did some ride along’s with the Rochester Police Department numerous times I said this is what I’m going to do. The ride along was an opportunity to see what it was like a day on the job and ask questions. The year I graduated I was enrolled in RCTC’s law enforcement program and was very excited. The average wage for law enforcement officers is about 60,000 a year if you think about what they do for a job do you think they deserve better pay than that? there’s people sitting at a desk in a cubicle all day that get paid more than a patrol officer does, that puts his/her life on the line everyday they go to work. Another factor that changed my mind was how hard it is to get a job. If you are not going for a bachelor’s degree for law enforcement you will have a hard time getting a job. So after doing the research I decided to take a year of school off and work for a little while. I also thought about what I wanted to go for. As my dad does HVAC (heating ventilation and air conditioning) work I decided to look in to that. I have always thought of that career field as a second choice, because I have always been good at hands on work suck as learning electrical, and how thing are put together and how everything
