Most importantly World War II not only changed the world by creating new ways to destroy countries, using mass murders, invasions, deportations, and assassinations. It also dehumanized Jewish people, brought new advancements to the world, pushed technologies to it’s limits and it was the main reason for the creation of new vehicles and new weapons. I began college in 2014 at the age of 58 years-old to change my area of employment and do something that is far more interesting to me, working within the social services field. I realize the fact I was brought up by two dysfunctional, abusive parents in a chaotic home lead me to search out that same type of familiar relationship when I left home at the age of seventeen. In short, I married a domestic violence abuser and alcoholic when I was 19 years-old and had 5 children. Ten years into the marriage, when I had finally reached the end of my rope, a local police officer helped me to obtain a Protection from Abuse order and removed my husband from the home. When I complete all of my schoolings I would like to become a behavioral disorder counselor. This career is for me because I love helping people, I want to help people better understand themselves so they can overcome their problems, and the human brain and the thought process has always been a huge interest to me. Is has always been a goal in my life to be somewhere in the healthcare field working, and this is the area that intrigues me and always keeps me interested. As of right now, my future plans are to finish high school, graduate college with a doctorate in behavioral psychology, and then further on to work as a counselor in a private practice.

Why do you want to be a Peer Counselor? I’ve grown up as an only child until I was at the age of nine. Through the years of being the center of attention, my parents and grandparents “babied” me. I was given constant aid as they made sure I didn’t come in contact with any harm. Therefore, I never learned to do things on my own, especially important events like obstacles and challenges.
