I hope to provide support and medical social services to the elderly population. I realize that senior citizens sometimes struggle with unique age-related health issues and debilitating diseases that make it hard to pursue fully functioning lives. As a social worker I’d help elderly individuals and their families examine their needs, and determine how to make those things happen. The elderly sometimes also endure loss of family support, lack of mobility, depression, abuse and loneliness. I hope to address the daily battles facing our elderly by helping them maintain their independence and dignity.
I had to re-evaluate myself, as well as my career, and that is when I came across social work. As a social worker, I was going to be able to work with kids in every different type of environment, as well as impact the kids which is what I always wanted to do. In ten years from now I see myself on my way out of college, and working as a social worker. My long term goal to help me get there is after getting into a good college, and I would at least stay 4 years in college. While I 'm in college I will take as many classes as I need to get a good education about my career and understand everything the best I can, Also around the second year in college I will find a job some what close to a social worker and work there for the rest of college after i’m out of college I plan on getting a job as a social worker and maybe in a relationship. Health and social care is something that I have always been passionate about. Because I have studied health and social care for the last four years I have regularly met a lot of the most vulnerable members of society through past work experiences. Through past placements I have worked with children who have special needs. This helped me develop ways of communicating with the children this could be through sign language. Because my Aunt is deaf I have taught myself basic sign language in order to communicate with her effectively.

At the time, I was an almost mid-life career changer who was leaving corporate America after 11 years. Unsatisfied with current job, I wanted to start a career where I could make a difference in people 's lives.
Over the semester I have learned many new aspects of social work that have helped deepen my understanding of what social work is really about. This course has taught me things that will help me become a better person and will also help me with my future working with children. Self reflection is a key skill to have when working in social work. We need to understand how we are, and our social location, influence everything we do with social work. My beliefs and values would be beneficial for being a social worker because I have a caring no judgment, personality that allows me to be a neutral and to listen to people.
Values are principles that people hold important to them in life. As I gotten older my values have changed based on my experience, knowledge, and goals. Since I am in college and the field of social work forced me to open my eyes to different things and ideas I would 've never thought of. Five values that are important to me while I am on this journey of becoming a social worker is my education, positive energy, not judging people based on their past, a reflect and meditate on my life, and be a generous to other.

Helping people solve their problems, giving them the opportunity to let off steam and share their feelings through confidential talks makes this profession unique and exceptional. I have abilities and values, such as: persistence, kindness, and loyalty, that are highlighted and essential to this job. Also, I have a plan that I will already start following it because this is what I want to be.
