Personal Statement: Stressed Out In High School

Stressed Out In High School I am interested in working with stress management for high school students. I believe quite a bit of stress begins to building up in the high school years. If a person could learn to manage and deal with the stresses as they begin to experience them, they may have a better chance of managing stress in the lives for a lifetime. The high school population is a unique group because they no longer feel like they can or want to depend completely on their parents but most are not anywhere near ready to deal with life when it comes to mature decisions. I know from personal experience I was not alone in this being a huge stressor as a teenager. If I was given the opportunity I would have trained professionals talk with the teens about stress and the ways to lessen it. I believe it is a subject that many students will not admit to since they believe they should be able to handle everything that is happening in their worlds. Most teens do not realize that a significant amount of stress is self-inflicted. Learning to see, admitting to it and dealing with stress is obviously a strategy that needs to be taught and learned.
I believe it would be beneficially for stressed teenagers to learn to journal their emotions. Many high school students do not even realize that they are experiencing high levels of stress. Many just figure they are tired or “getting sick” when in fact they have reached level of extreme stress that is now physically taking its toll. I believe if these students wrote down what was going on in the lives and what they were thinking or feeling they would begin to see a correlation between stress and their physical
