Persuasion In Hitler's Speech

The secondary text that will represent the persuasion unit is a Hitler speech. Hitler is often shown as one of the world’s best persuaders, which is due to his ability to persuade an entire country. This text relates to the unit of persuasion because it has all of the elements of persuasion in the speech. Hitler is an effective persuader because he encompasses all elements of persuasion.
To begin, Hitler uses the technique of having many hand gestures in his speech and speaking with confidence. By using a lot of hand gestures, Hitler is able to persuade people into believing his ideals because he seems more passionate about what he is saying. Hitler uses pathos to prevent the audience from questioning his claims and thereby persuades them. In the video, at 5:30, it reads, “It must be shown, however, that all upstanding Germans become Nationalist Socialists.” What this sentence does to the audience is it prevents them from thinking what a “true” German looks like. Hitler persuades the nations’ individual and plants an image in their minds that in order to be considered to be a “true” German, you must be a part of the Nazi Party. By using his own emotions when saying this line, Hitler causes the entire stadium of people to stand up and salute him whilst making the Nazi sign. This proves that Hitler’s use of pathos alone causes the stadium of people to be persuaded. Moreover, Hitler uses ethos to build his credibility as a leader of the Nazi Party. Hitler does this by standing upon a podium, making him seem more important and with more power than if he were to stand on an eye-level with the audience. Furthermore, Hitler has the Nazi sign behind him, causing the German people to think about joining the Nazi Party due to the repetition of symbols present. Also, Hitler is wearing a uniform that is militaristic. This makes the German people place more significance on the authoritarianism of Hitler and this gives Hitler more credibility and power. Hitler is also using logos heavily throughout the speech. For example, at 6:05, Hitler says, “Once, our enemies worried us and persecuted us and, from time to time, removed the lesser elements from the Movement for us. Today we must examine ourselves and remove from our midst the elements that have become bad.” This can have two meanings, the first meaning is that Hitler is saying that because their enemies causes the German people to suffer, they should be allowed to do the same to their enemies.
