In high school, students have many opportunities to participate in athletic events. One of the most popular sports offered in high school across the United States is football. The list of life lessons the sport can teach is prolonged. Most people think that the long days and nights spent participating in high school football “pay off” after realizing the abilities they gained. High school football has the ability to transform irresponsible and unfocused students into responsible and perseverant athletes. When starting a vigorous sport, such as football, it may teach the importance of a good physical condition and endurance. It is especially important in football because of the temperatures the athletes may play in and because of the length of the game. Football is a game of strength, agility, and speed. Those that play football and are not in good physical shape may not enjoy the sport and may not continue with it. One of the many benefits that football offers in high school includes lifelong bonds with teammates. After spending so many hours with the same people for months during the school year, and several years in a row, people become closer because they realize that is who they will be spending most of their free time with for the season. After committing so much time to people, they become closer than expected and end up keeping in touch in most cases. One benefit that most studies show proven is time management improvement. Players learn to handle tasks better and on time by having to plan their day out before it even begins. The sport also helps to improve concentration by making players stay focused for 48 minutes on the time clock during a game.
