Football has become very popular over the past years. People are starting their kids to play at the young age of five. It is some people’s main priority to watch on a Saturday and Sunday, and the “Friday night lights” are a very popular thing in high schools all around the country. Some people think the popularity of football is getting out of hand in schools. They are worried it is taking away from the educational aspect of school.
Steven Salzberg takes a debatable position in “Get Football Out of Our Universities” by guarding reasons on why he considers football should not be prioritized over education. Although I am not a fan of football, I found Salzberg’s inflection and style to be arrogant and displeasing. To persuade his readers, his tone is solid in note to his dislike towards football players. I felt that for his writing to be an argumentative piece, he should have used more logic to support his argument. College football is very important to the lovers of football.
And it did just that. Johnathan Zimmerman’s article “Football: Unsafe at any Level” really showcased each and every one of the rhetorical appeals. This editorial should be read by coaches, parents and as well as the football player themselves. This editorial will help the reader understand the dangers of the game. Not only does it teach you about the dangers, it also showcase that people are working to improve the game to make it more safe for everyone involved in the sport.

In this post, Amanda Ripley initially shows the benefits when involving in the high-school sports: exercise, sportsmanship lessons, some positive personalities, more fun and staying away from vices. She also writes some tales to inform readers that in the US, students are interested and enjoy in sports more than other peers in other countries. However, she claims that the high-school sports have negative effects on schools and students. Since children are not fully developed, it is morally reprehensible to allow them to play such a sport in which they can possibly have life-changing or life-ending injuries. Far too many high school athletes get concussions from playing football (Watson 35). Approximately 100,000 high schoolers report concussions each year
At first, when medical research suggested that the game causes neurological damage, the league spent years denying it. (3) Now that medical evidence is proving it, the league had looked for other means by fining defenders of helmet-to-helmet hits to be safe. On the other hand, the sport’s popularity makes players into celebrities and make news on the front page of the magazine. However, most players do not really care about the future effect that football has on them, all they care about is to be famous, and make some money, and live a good life. In the article, Almond stated that he had numerous difficult conversations with friends in the course of writing his argument.
In high school football, boys are battered on the practice field and game day. Opposing teams can’t let that touch down happen. Players are hit harder and harder to the point where they occasionally get concussions. The demand to play college football or even in the NFL has increased, as do the harder hits. And with those harder hits come the bigger bruises, concussions and injuries.
In this community lately, there has been discussion lately on sports possibly being removed from the high schools. Although, they get the most recognition that does not mean that just because one little thing it gets removed and completely forgotten about. In fact, so many people do high school sports in the text “Are High School Sports Good For Kids” it explicitly states “Here in Michigan almost 300,000 young people take part in high school sports every year.” This scene particularly shows that many youth athletes participate in high school sports in only one state alone.
“With high school just around the corner, a new study is raising awareness of the risks associated with playing the game,” said the article High School, College Football Comes With Risk by Jeffrey Perkel. In the article by Jeffrey Perkel it states, “Researchers found that college football players get injured more often than their high school counterparts but high school athletes are more likely to end up injured.” Youth sports are harmful because they, make the kids so they are most likely to end up in the emergency room, they do not get enough sleep, and the college students get injured easier. Youth sports are helpful because, they help with educational purposes, they have positive effects on adolescents, and they helps associate kids with participation and sportsmanship. However, with all the information I have gathered they say things like, “But better coaching may help.”
Summary In “Children Need to Play, Not Compete,” Jessica Statsky tries to demonstrate the negative effect of organized sports on the physical and psychological health of growing child. She claims that the games are not festive but they end up in the wrong development of a child’s brain. The coaches and parents have high hopes for their children that result in the pressure building. This changes the purpose of sports from teaching tolerance, teamwork and sportsmanship to merely winning by all means.
The era of Football in America is slowly coming to a close. Football has been known as America’s sport next to baseball for many years now. The general physicality of every play isn’t(B3) matched by any other sport on the planet, and that is why football causes more injuries than any other sport on the professional, and youth levels. Parents are pulling their kids from their teams, even in the middle of the season because of the information that has been released over the past decade illuminating a big problem for the game.
However, students show commitment in staying on the team so they try to focus on their grades too. In fact, the university of Chicago, becoming a man-sports edition creates lasting improvements in the boys study habits and grade point averages. This evidence clearly shows that there is no harm into the student’s grade. The most convincing reason why high school sports are beneficial is that being in a school sports shows and improves social and participation around others.

Adrenaline pulsing through my body and anxiety filling up in my stomach, I quickly throw on my football gear and head out to the practice field. It’s a nice hot day in Ocala, Florida, with the sun beating down on our necks, we stand side by side in line waiting to be picked to play second, third, or fourth string in a play. Waiting in anticipation, each of us grinding our teeth, watching first string pure athletes colliding against each other like gladiators to have possession of a ball made at one-time of “pig’s skin”. To some people, the game of American football makes no sense, whether it’s the idea of trying to protect a ball or running and passing it to make a goal for your team. People like this, see the concept of football and understand why millions of people love it; but to them the sport is pointless and causes way too many casualties.
