There has long been disagreement about tryouts and cuts for sports teams.The truth of the matter is, that tryouts and cuts are not the best option for sports teams. In fact, the best option would be to eliminate tryouts all together. They are tanking kids confidence, causing stress, and they could lose interest in pursuing the sport completely. Firstly, a child’s confidence is crucial. According to Brooke de Lench author of MomsTeam,” For many, being cut represents a direct assault on their self esteem,” This evidence shows that kids who are being cut after tryouts are taking blows to their self esteem that they don’t need to be. Stress inflicted on students could cause their grades to plummet. Why put stress on students when it isn’t necessary. While some argue that stress pushes students to work harder, it could also make them fall apart. Lastly, the main purpose for tryouts is to get students onto a sports team. However, a lot of kids who don’t make it on the team lose interest in the sport completely. For example, according to a writer from Schools A to Z it states that sports teams develop kid’s “ Leadership skills, social interaction skills, and teamwork skills” This evidence shows what kids would be missing out on if they quit their sports teams. If getting rid of tryouts means more kids would play sports then that’s the best option. In conclusion, sports teams shouldn’t hold tryouts for kids to be accepted onto the team.
