Abortion tends to be the most common way for a woman to get out of an unwanted pregnancy but that does not in any way make it right. Personally, I find it disgusting how someone can make the decision to terminate an innocent life due to one’s carelessness. In 2008 alone there were about 14,000 abortions carried out in Scotland which shockingly sums up to about 40 each day. I understand that pregnancy can happen by mistake however I know that most of the time people get pregnant due to having unprotected sex. For that reason alone, abortion should never be an option as I believe if someone willingly has unprotected sex they should have to deal with the consequences that comes with their actions.
I believe that pain can be felt by the foetus during the abortion procedure. It has been said that science now knows that within 20-30 weeks of the baby’s growth the highest density of pain receptors develop in the unborn which is five times the amount that any child or adult will ever be capable of. Bernard N. Nathanson who was an American medical doctor said “We see (in an ultrasound image) the child's mouth open in a silent scream. There was a study done in 2003 published by the International Journal of Epidemiology which states that approximately 15% of miscarriages that are in the first trimester are attributed to prior abortions. Evidently this means that if a woman wants to conceive but has had an abortion at some point in her life, there is a high chance that she will unfortunately have a miscarriage. In my opinion a miscarriage is one of worst things any woman can experience in her life and 90% of the time it will scar someone mentally to the point they are too afraid to try again because of the loss they have previously
