Imagine yourself distraught and feeling so lost. You being to feel lonely and like nothing out there can cure your sadness. As you sit and think about how your world is getting smaller, you feel a wet nose nudge your knee. You open your eyes to see the sweetest, fluffiest face. It is your puppy. This particular puppy makes you feel like you are on cloud nine. Just that sweet face, changed your mood instantly. For a lot of people this is a crucial part of life, having a companion. This is known as animal therapy. Animal therapy started or first noted in 1792. One could probably assume that it could have been started sooner especially since animals have been around since the man and earth were created. It was not something that was just automatically labeled as animal therapy. This was because they were not one hundred percent aware of the effects that the animals could potentially have on these patients. They also could not really tell if the patients were just simply excited because there a furry animal present not because the animal had the potential to help them mentally (AAST& University of Oregon 2017). Since that day, animal therapy has grown into a huge phenomenon and more and more patients are taking advantage of this great alternative therapy. Animal is greatly accepted whether it is in the United States of America or Internationally. No matter the animal, people have that instinct to automatically have an improved mood when an animal pays them attention. Nowadays you see a lot of people with therapy dogs (Morning Edition 2017).
