One of the most dangerous and thrilling sports in the world is big wave surfing. It requires surfers to navigate waves that can surge up to 80 feet or higher. But with great reward comes great risk, and for large wave surfers, the possibility of harm or even death is a continuous reality. In this report, I'll look at the equipment and strategies used by surfers to withstand wipeouts, as well as the physical and mental preparedness needed to participate in such a risky activity. We'll also look at the possibilities for new developments to make extreme wave surfing safer as well as the effects of climate change on wave patterns and surf locations all over the world affecting the future for the sport. Additionally, some surfers engage in yoga or meditation to strengthen their capacity for composure under pressure.
Body positioning- During a wipeout, a surfer's chances of survival may depend on how they position their body. In order to reduce their risk of damage, seasoned surfers strive to avoid standing vertically with their arms and legs split apart. Instead, they attempt to roll up into a ball with their legs bent and their arms covering their heads. The risk of injury can be decreased and the effect of the wave can be lessened by adopting this position.
Timing- Timing is everything in a wipeout. Experienced surfers know when to hang on and when to leave a wave. They are also skilled at timing their duck dives (diving under a wave) and resurfaces (coming up for air after being pushed underneath).
