The ever-popular pink ribbon symbolizes strength and hope, while its appearance is recognized by almost everyone. Breast cancer is arguably the most talked about cancer in the world. There are 5K’s, bake sales, raffles, concerts, pink ribbons, months, and merchandise all dedicated to raising awareness (and funds) for breast cancer. With everything centered on breast cancer, how is the public supposed to know about and stay informed about other diseases? My goal is to simply raise more awareness for other types of cancers. Pink is my favorite color, but I’m getting a little tired of seeing it everywhere. It’s like when you hear a great song on the radio, and the station you’re listening to plays it over and over and over again. Eventually, you lose interest.
The reason as to why I feel this way is because I know too many people who get diagnosed with a disease, and then don’t know who or where to turn to for support. I’m sure there are charities and support groups for every cancer, but their extremely hard to find compared …show more content…

These illnesses are not a part of a popularity contest, and they need to be taken seriously at all times. In addition to raising awareness, we need to be raising action. If the cancer segregation stops, we can accomplish more regarding research for cancer as a whole. If you take anything from this essay, make it the fact that breast cancer isn’t the only cancer in the world. Give people with other cancers a place to turn too without the feeling that their illness doesn’t matter as much as breast cancer. Although you may believe that people with other cancers don’t feel this way, a lot more than you think, do. At least give the men with breast cancer a jacket with the word “brotherhood”.
