Overconsumption has been a big problem for many, hence why there was a day made to stop the buying of products. In September of 1992 Canada created a day called Buy Nothing Day where one will simply stay at home and buy nothing. This day just so happens to fall on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving where many will go out and spend so much money on what they think is a great deal. Overspending has become so popularc everyone does it without noticing until they are broke. Many companies are also tired of all the waste that comes from overconsumption whether that be all the waste going into the ocean or all the underpaid workers that have to make all these products then sit and sell them on Black Friday. He wants people to see the negatives and all the bad things that come from overspending. People are trying to pushback and want to put an end to overconsumption. Communities have even gone out of their way to give examples of things to do on this holiday instead of spending money, like donating old things or even just sitting at home watching tv NOT spending money.
