(Kristen Weir) The injury issue is rising in the pros and spreading to the little leagues. With sports like soccer, football, and wrestling growing in high schools, so are the number of injuries. Concussions and other head injuries are at an all time high, but can be avoided. In response to these issues, there are laws and regulations being made to protect athletes. Schools, leagues and supervisors are finding new ways to keep contact sports beneficial to students. Teen athletes benefit from sports more than they lose with the serious injuries that can occur. Yes, they are at an all time high with one in every five U.S high school athletes getting a head injury, but they can be avoided. “Many states have passed laws requiring a young player to be cleared by a medical professional before returning to play after a concussion” (Weir 1). Not only little leagues, but also the National Football League has made rules to reduce head injuries and made policies on returning to play after a head injuries more strict (Weir 1). These simple regulations are controlling the amount of injuries. The number of head injuries is decreasing and players are enjoying safer games. Athletes in all sports should be protected by rules similar to these. They don’t hurt or change the game in any way. Instead, they keep injured players out and avoid more injuries from happening. Safety has not always been a problem in sports, but with players getting bigger, faster, and stronger, supervisors took action and maintained control of the number of players
