There are 175 countries in the world right now (Countries). The United States is ranked 48th in suicides. An alarming total of 44,193 people commits suicide here, each year (List). It’s daughters, sons, mothers, fathers, friends, and coworkers taking their life. It’s everyday people taking their life. But when someone takes their life, they might think they are taking their sadness with them, but they are just leaving it with everyone left behind. A son or daughter taking their life leaves an unbearing pain in the heart of their parents. A mother or a father taking their life leaves an absence of a role model for their children. But then after someone commits suicide, it is very common for others to portray them as a victim and courageous for straying from their problems (Muller). But in result of that, those deaths can have a hand in copycat suicide attempts. Copycat suicides come from one person commiting suicide, and their peers or someone who hears about it, thinking it’s something bold to do, or a way to get attention. With others having the thought of this, they can attempt suicide, whether it be successful or not, themselves (Mueller). This is one of the biggest reasons we need to learn how to talk about suicide in the correct manner. At some point in their life, most people will know a suicidal person or will be one. Sadness is a natural thing in life. So, hiding from suicide or the awareness of it cannot happen anymore. Learning to talk about suicide, or our feelings in general are important.
