Over 3.2 million students are victims of cyberbullying each year. Cyberbullying has been going on for many years and not many people have done anything to stop it. If schools work together to at least dial down the online bullying, so much can change in just a little amount of time. Schools should be able to discipline the students that cyberbully at their school because, the kids being bullied will not feel safe if the bullying continues, even if the principal or a member of the school’s staff tells them to stop they will constantly do it , and approximately 160,000 teens skip school because of cyberbullying and they need education.
Schools do not have a say in whether or not to be able to punish students who cyberbully but they can tell someone to stop doing it, although they do not know that they will continue to do it when they are told not to. Kristen Houghton says “Bullying is epidemic. It always was, and despite what school administrators tell the public, it is rampant today. The recent suicide of a 12-year-old girl who was viciously bullied online and in school attests to this.” This goes to show that no matter what school staff, or administrators do or say, nothing will stop the cruelty that happens over the internet. This is important because if this does not stop immediately, there are more tragedies to come.
