“Eugenics is the study of human improvement by genetic means.” In the past, Nazi’s attempted to create the Aryan “master race”. Whereas, today we have things such as invitro fertilization so people can opt to not have kids with cystic fibrosis, tay sachs, etc. The past concerns me. Purging humans deemed unfit to live because they don’t fit a requirement or belief is disgusting. Specifically, with the “master race” the Nazi’s were killing people by the thousands and breeding ‘pure Germans’. I find this behavior vulgar and outright detestable. A person should not be able to take another’s life because they have a different hair color. However, I think a parent should be able to choose to not raise a child with known problems. With all the advancements in medicine we are approaching the point where in theory people will be able to have designer babies. Parents may want to pick their child’s appearance of their own volition. Or even, select their overall genetic makeup. This sort of thing could be a great thing, or a horrible tragedy to the human race. What makes Natalie Dormer attractive to some may be found unattractive, a lopsided mouth. Conversely, I find selecting the child’s appearance or other traits to be rather extreme. Diversity and uniqueness make the attractive mates just that. There are many fine lines with eugenics. Some things may be too much for others, like not having a child because they have autism. I’m not entirely opposed to such a notion. Abortion laws and beliefs are also considered in this particular case. To me, I find this to be eugenics. We are preventing a child of autism to potential procreate by not having the child. I find this to be a suitable use of eugenics, but I have a hard time defining the line between what is ok and what is
