Recommended: Effects of sleep deprivation on mental health and academic performance

Recently the school board has been congregating and they are deciding on whether or not to extend school an hour and a half. Faculty, Staff, and students already get 7 and half hours of school with a 20 min lunch break, employees and employees at jobs have an 8 hour day with an hour lunch break, I think we all can agree that if the school board extends school then no one will be happy. I believe school should not be extended an hour and a half because your brain will have no time to rest, you may have less time to spend with families or friends, and you may have no time for after school clubs or activities.
To begin with the brain is an organ in your body that helps you work through your day and the process of decision making, without it you would not have a life full of happiness and adventure. If your brain is not allowed the time to rest, then you will not be able to focus on work, you will be too tired to think which can affect your decision making and rationalizing. Additionally, if your brain does not rest, then it can affect you both physically and mentally, it can cause headaches if you do not rest from time to time after certain activities that require plenty of thinking. Furthermore,if you tend to be taking a hefty amount of activities you may not let your brain get a chance to think and relax, which is needed in order for your …show more content…

The time for family will be gone and there will not be a chance for family development and healthy relationship within the family. Students will not be able to take after school clubs or activities and will not be able to enjoy themselves because of lack of time given in the afternoon caused by extending hours. These are the reasons why school hours should not be extended, but it is up to you to decide whether you want rest or if you want to overwork
