There are so many laws I would change if I was given the opportunity. Even though the laws concerning divorce, seat belts, and school corporal punishment are important laws that need a little bit more tweaking, foster care is an everyday problem that continually is forgotten about. By shining light on the topic, I hope my voice is heard. The way we deal with these children isn’t the most desired way. Some of the requirements are outrageous and need a great deal of endeavor. Foster care is when a minor isn’t sent to an orphanage or put into a group home but needs somewhere to stay while their caregiver is unable to perform those duties. This is a huge issue because if you aren’t getting a lot and you are on the borderline of struggling, you shouldn't be a foster parent. If you live in a trailer or apartment, you shouldn’t be a foster parent. Dismally, at a young age victims of foster care have traumatic situations going on already and don’t need to add more to it. The child should not have to worry if their foster parent only got paid one hundred dollars that month and there will be no hot water. They do not need to be placed in a crowded area of a trailer or apartment. I believe foster kids should be raised in populated, healthy, comfortable areas. Changing this law would benefit numerous amounts of people. The safety of these children would be improved greatly. I would change the age that you are allowed to foster adolescents. I think that twenty-one is too young and would make the minimum age about twenty-five years. This would be better on the child and caregiver because the parent would be more responsible. By then, school is over and you are able to work and provide for the foster child. The child will be able to confide in someone who is older and responsible and caring.
