In the Foster care System, there are more and more kids that go into Foster Care each day, everyone’s story is different on how they got into the system, and every child deserves a chance to be happy, safe and feel loved. You can have a huge impact on a child by opening your home and heart to them. At the same time, you bring out the love and joy in your life while helping a child succeed and help them become a strong and loving person. It isn’t easy to be a kid these days. They’re faced with physical and emotional abuse, drugs, alcohol and peer pressure.
In my opinion I think that some foster care parents only become foster parents for the money, and they aren’t doing it because they want to change someone’s life. I think that Young adults who have grown up in foster care also need more help in making the transition to independent living, and more and more foster kids today are going into the system with violence and sexual abuse. Claudia Felder lives in Chino, California shared her story of being in foster care and what her life was like. She raised her sister while in foster care and they’ve been in six foster care homes and all but one was physically and sexually abusive. On average children remain in state care for nearly two or more years and nearly eight percent of children have stayed in foster care for over five years.
