Abstract: Displacement, change, and inevitably are words often used when discussing the process of gentrification. Currently many cities in California are facing the harsh reality that their communities are in much need of renovations. However this agreement was not established by the city and its residents. It was much more established by the wealthy onlookers who are interested in an urban high class lifestyle. This process has a systematic approach and thus intends to push out locals to accommodate new residents needs. Those needs include new organic markets, new schools, and overall a safer low crime community. Is that not what we all need in order to survive? The park in which you spent 10 years of your childhood life playing hide and seek, reading, and enjoying the wonders nature has to offer is now a franchise of a fast food company. The school you attended through first and fifth grade has been transformed into an “All American Mall.” A mall that is now the center of attraction for tourists, economically wealthy people, and to those who couldn’t care more about the lives that use to once coexist on these floors. This is a recurring problem to those whose community is at risk of being “improved.” Good or bad, change is inevitable and most certainly it allows us to grow in a positive or negative manner. However, at what length must we go in order to progress our lifestyles positively? Why was this positive change made only after the gentrification? This change is known as gentrification,“is a general term for the arrival of wealthier people in an existing urban district, a related increase in rents and property values, and changes in the district's character and culture” (pbs). Not just any city is gentrified, it has to have a “want” factor for those who will invest millions of dollars for the outcome. This action cannot be controlled unless there’s an uprising revolution against those who hold most of the city’s wealth and that is not going to happen anytime
