The mass shooting tragedies in Florida schools created a ripple about the popular and controversial debate about gun control. America should have more gun control laws, as they can help save dozens, hundreds, maybe even thousands of victims. Advantages of these gun restrictions are the decrease of gun-related murders, more thorough background checks to prevent giving guns to criminals or people with mental illnesses and the prohibition of high-capacity magazines. Nonetheless, the other side of the coin is education about guns should have a higher priority rather than actual gun control, as they do not prevent illegal possession of guns or one 's lower feeling of security. While gun control laws do not stop criminals from stealing guns, if there were fewer guns to steal, criminals would not have illegally - obtained weapons; furthermore, victims rarely use guns for self-defense. Only 0.79% of 2011 's violent crime victims guarded themselves against harm by using a gun or a firearm. Secondly, people feel safe with a gun because they can protect themselves to some degree in the case of someone attacking them. However, a civilian possessing a gun can lead to a higher chance of conflicts, such as brawls, arguments, and love triangles, ending violently and a dangerous situation, such as a mass shooting, go worse. Domestic abuse situations also escalate in danger when the abuser has a gun; a woman 's chance of being shot surges up to 500% if a gun is near the abusive and dangerous situation. Thirdly, it is true that the education about guns and gun control is important; therefore, the education can be a gun control program to help create a generation where the use of guns and gun death percentage is significantly lower than
