Greetings, citizens of America! We have all gathered here to discuss a very serious issue: the annexation of Hawaii. Yesterday, July 7, 1898, Hawaii was annexed into the United States, which was reprehensible. There is no just cause for annexing Hawaii, Hawaii itself doesn’t benefit from the annexation, and we will have to spend lots of resources to uphold Hawaii.

We have no guarantee that the Hawaiians will cooperate with us. According to centralsurvivor.org., “Hawaiian protests immediately followed the annexation of the islands and U.S. actions were denounced as an "act of war." Ultimately, by establishing a government without the consent of the governed and by denying the indigenous peoples a political voice or vote, the cry went out that the annexation of the Hawaiian islands was the ultimate subversion of democracy..” This shows that Native Hawaiians do not want to be annexed, and instead still want their rights as Native Hawaiian people, which were taken away from them from the U.S. 's “act of war”. We don’t know if the Hawaiians will want to work with us because they might decide to revolt and force us to spend more precious resources just to guarantee that Hawaii is still annexed. According to notevenpast.org, “Hawaii lost its independence, unwillingly became a United States territory, gained a larger population of foreigners than native Hawaiians, and lost much of its culture.” This means that Hawaii was no longer an independent country, was forced to become a territory of the United States, and lost most of its culture.
