They are silent killers, living in backyards, parks and neighborhoods all across the world. They specialize in crowding out, choking, and killing native residents to the point where they rule over the land. The prevention and elimination of these species cost billions of dollars to the United States each year. Our commercial, agricultural, and recreational activities depend on the execution of these visitors. With most of the next generation’s invasive species already introduced to the environment, the only thing left for them to do is grow. The only way to combat the problem completely would be to stop the constant importation of goods from other countries. Yet, because of the constantly consuming nature of our nation, this is very unlikely. According to The Nature Conservancy, the best way to help decrease the impact or potential threat of invasive species is by educating individuals on the ways they can stop the intentional spread of invasive species. This includes verifying the plants you buying for your yard or garden are not invasive and native to your area. Cleaning off your boots and shoes before hiking or walking around in a new area. Not packing fruits, vegetables, plants or animals when visiting another part of the country. And, not releasing aquarium fish and plants or exotic pets into the wild (Invasive Species: What You Can Do). These are all important steps individuals can take to help prevent an invasive species outbreak in their area. There are also many non-profit organizations that are working hard to educate about the issue and fight against the spread of invasive species, that are in constant need of
