A mother stops to pick up some laundry. The mother parks the vehicle but turns the key so the radio would play for the family. While collecting the laundry the mother had a feeling something was wrong. The mother runs outside to find the daughter’s head rolled up in the window; the mother panics. The child’s face was blue, lips were purple, and foam was coming from the corner of the child’s mouth. After freeing the child from the window; the child was brought back to life (Kids and Cars, Savannah Smith). This is just one instance of what can happen when a child is left unattended in a vehicle. According to KidsAndCars.org (2015) national statistics; 3159 child non-traffic fatalities happened during 1990-2013. Many parents believe leaving a child unattended in or around a vehicle for a few minutes will be okay; this is a very dangerous decision that can change a life instantly and forever. A child is playing in the front driver’s seat of a vehicle while the parent is nearby. The child pulls on the gear shifter and the vehicle slips into neutral. The car is now in motion and the child is in danger. Some cars do not have the proper system in the vehicle to where you have to push on the break to change out of “park”. This makes the vehicle instantly mobile and the child is in a dangerous maybe fatal situation. Another danger is the power windows. Some vehicles power windows are still active until the doors opened. If a parent has just left the vehicle and the child is still in the car; the child could accidentally lean on the window button and close the window on their head/neck.
