A newer sport that has people thriving over it, is mixed martial arts. Sprouting from a mixture of sports like boxing, UFC, and wrestling, MMA is becoming the next big thing. Mixed martial arts is a controversial sport where two fighters use different complex techniques during 5 minute round fights. MMA is taught to almost all age groups in gyms all over the country. A battle amongst the states have MMA supporters upset everywhere, deciding whether or not MMA should be a legal sport. Nowadays, 45 out of the 48 states that permit prizefighting have MMA legalized. While some people disagree, MMA should become a legal sport in all states because it has no higher risks of injury than other sports, it teaches young viewers the need to know self-defense, and it could bring in much needed revenue to the states.
In the opposing opinion the sport of MMA is dangerous. A number of critics argue that MMA is a more dangerous sport compared to others. Bob Rielly, a New York state assemblyman, believes there are too many dangerous aspects of the sport: “In the National Football

Over the years, new rules have been set to create a safer version of MMA. Within any sport, there are always the chances for an injury to occur, but just like other sports, there are trained professionals nearby in case of any accidents. There is a much deeper meaning to MMA than just fighting. MMA teaches one self discipline, self-control, and respect. Because of these things, the new sport has gained so much popularity and interest, that it could financially benefit in the states in a great way. So much money has already been accumulated just by the showings on TV, that states would be making millions. From financial benefits, to the lessons it teaches, to the new and improved safety rules, there is no reason why mixed martial arts should remain illegal in the remaining
