Nobody Speak Nobody Speak is a documentary about how freedom of the press has changed for worse and the media is being limited and can be struck down by people with money. The first example of this given to us is Hulk Hogan vs Gawker. To start Gawker had posted an article containing clips from a Hulk Hogan sex tape. As a result, Hogan filed a suit against Gawker for 100 million dollars. The strange thing is that he had the charges lined up so that insurance would not cover it, meaning that Gawker would go bankrupt and be forced to close down. It was believed that Peter Theil backed the suit, because he was hurt years earlier by an article that said he was obviously gay. Hogan won the case and was awarded 140 million in damages. Theil had personal motives to take down Gawker as I mentioned earlier in the paper. Several people of power have tried to silence media lately because they can find ways to hurt people of power. The three examples given to us in Nobody Speak was Peter Theil, Sheldon Adelson, and President Trump. Do I believe that the funding of ways to silence media outlets is ethical? Not entirely because it gives those who have the money the power of the case and it should be a fair trial without other people interfering. However, in the case of Gawker, I do not like their style of reporting articles, that many would rather have kept private. On the other hand, in the case Adelson case I believe that is not ethical because they report on stories that have strong significance to what occurs in the state of Nevada. In the case of President Trump, one of the major elements of his campaign was calling out the media, saying that the articles they post are fake news. I believe that there is some truth to what he ran on. There have been numerous cases where media has published articles that are false. I do not think that the first amendment would harmed too much if there were changes done by the Trump administration. I believe that it would require media outlets to fact check their articles more closely, and publish better
