Nuclear energy is generated during a nuclear reaction, by change in the nucleus of an atom. The source of nuclear energy is the mass of the nucleus and energy generated during a nuclear reaction is due to conversion of mass into energy. The use of nuclear energy for electricity generation began in the late 1950s and went through several phases over the subsequent half century. All around the globe, the continual request for power (energy) continues to climb as the world’s use continues to surge. Todays, millions who were once in poverty are pulling themselves out and striving for more; even in developing countries, and as the world population expands, thus, the energy demand increases and the debate as to future energy supply deepens.
