Nuclear Technology Nuclear technology is a widely used field of science in many aspects of the world today. The study on how nuclear energy could be used catalyzed during World War II, mostly in Germany and The United States. Since then, scientists started to use nuclear energy in technology because it doesn’t give off greenhouse gases, the reactions in weaponry can create mass destruction, and can be used in radiation in terms of medical needs. Studies have proved that nuclear energy offers a numerous amount of warfare, medicinal, and electrical advantages. All over the world energy is being used more frequently than the past because of all the new technology offered, from this nuclear scientists founded a way to efficiently …show more content…

The bomb dropped on Hiroshima Japan killed 140,000 civilians in a flash.1 This mass destruction was the effect of the nuclear technology scientists used to create this bomb. The United States used the process of fission inside the atomic bomb to create a devastating explosion. The atomic scientists chose Uranium- 235 and Plutonium-239 because these two isotopes easily undergo fission. Fission specifically is when a neutron hits the nuclei of either isotope and creates a huge surge of energy that is released. The first bomb, “Little Boy” used a gun type design which consisted of two masses of Uranium-235. This reaction led to the two masses creating a specific mass which set off a chain reaction which eventually detonated the bomb.2 The other bomb used against Japan was named “Fat Man”. This bomb had a different mechanism used to detonate. Physicist Seth Neddermeyer founded that if you use conventional explosives around a central Plutonium mass, then it would increase the density and mass of the element and create a chain reaction which would lead to a massive explosion.2 These two bombs were just the start of using nuclear weapons in warfare. Today with the technology in the world nuclear weapons have evolved greatly into weapons of mass destruction, greater than those of World War …show more content…

Nuclear medicine uses small amounts of radioactive materials that are injected into your bloodstream to detect early stages of many diseases.4 This type of procedure works in a very complex way compared to a typical X-Ray examination. The procedure uses radioactive material, usually referred to as a radiotracer which is injected in many different ways. The material then accumulates in the part of the body which is being examined and gives off a source of Gamma Rays. Distinct cameras and computers develop photographs that offers information to the doctors on functions of the organ being tested.4 Due to many instances doctors have come up with many benefits to nuclear medicine to patients. Some of these most important benefits consist of nuclear medicine being less expensive and giving as concise information as exploratory surgery, this medicine offers the potential to detect a disease at its earliest stages, they yield important information to help doctors easily develop a diagnosis or what type of treatment to give to the patient, and nuclear medicine provides information on anatomic structure and functions of the body that is unattainable from other imaging technologies.Even though there are many benefits to nuclear medicine there are still some risks the patient can come into. Even though the radiation risk is very low, scientists
