The atomic bomb dropped on japan was a huge feat and paved the way into the atomic era. The American atomic bomb program also called the Manhattan project was a plan to design and build the world’s first atomic bomb. The project manager Robert Oppenheimer was the actual designer of the bombs. A facility was built in the Nevada desert near Los Alamos and they conducted testing of the bombs where the trinity test at the Alamogordo bombing and gunnery range. These tests finalized the dropping of the bombs on Japan to end World War 2. The original problem we were faced with was invading Japan. After capturing almost every single other island and land that japan captured. We were left with the biggest island of them all. America, United Kingdom …show more content…

The first bomb Little Boy, had mechanics that worked like a gun. They had two isotopes of Uranium-235 (which is a very powerful very reactive element) they had each one on the end of the gun barrel design. They when the bomb was about to hit it would release the top amount of U-235 and it would ram into the other amount of U-235 and combine causing it to explode. THe reason for this explosion happened because when the combined a neutron would break off and combine with another U-235. when this happens it becomes unsustainable and so it breaks apart almost immediately causing that release of energy. When it breaks apart it releases more neutrons that go and combine with another U-235 causing a chain reaction. this causes all the U-235 to explode and making it all explode. The plutonium Bomb had the same kind of explosion method except it had a hollow plutonium sphere inside of the bomb. It used conventional explosives to make the sphere compress into a small enough space to combine and then explode outwards releasing the energy into the
