Blackfish (2013) is an American documentary film directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite and produced by Manuel V. Oteyza. The documentary primarily concerns the controversy of captured Killer Whales at the theme park Sea World, primarily that of Tilikum, an Orca responsible for the deaths of 2010 SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau and two other individuals. The documentary begins with this incident but goes as far back to the 1970 's show the audience how young Orcas are captured in the wild and taken from their families and natural environments. Since its release at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival Blackfish has achieved both critical acclaim and caused controversy regarding SeaWorld 's treatment of its animals as well as retaliation from SeaWorld as to the legitimacy of the film 's claims.
Blackfish is a film on the various incidents involving orcas in SeaWorld, focusing on Tilikum especially, who killed three people. Blackfish argues that captivity causes psychological harm to orca. It claims that because orcas are used to swimming up to 100 miles per day, keeping them in small enclosures has a detrimental effect on their mental well-being. A neurologist interviewed in the film says that all orcas in captivity are emotionally scarred, traumatized, and are thus “ticking time bombs”. Evidence in the documentary is used to suggest that orcas exhibit signs of stress, hyperaggression, depression, and frustration, which, especially with Tilikum, seemingly manifested itself as violent outbursts against the trainers, and other orcas
Blackfish is a documentary written about the cruel way the killer whales are treated in SeaWorld. The documentary explains the circumstances in which the killer whales are caught, and the small spaces these huge animals are allowed to live in, which leads to short life span and aggravated behaviors of the otherwise gentle Orcas. The maltreatment is believed to have led the death of several trainers in Canada, America, and Spain, as the killer whales grew increasingly agitated with their conditions. A good documentary film must have a captivating storyline, real interviews, facts and statistics to back up claims, and actual footage. There are several documentaries being released on a weekly basis, in which "claims," are made but later repealed.
High controversy exists on the capture and containment of all organisms in the world today. However, due to extremely popular public attractions Orcas have stayed under heavy debate on the right and wrong of zooing situations. People alike on the side against the containment of orcas have created a rigged documentary Blackfish, assessing the harm corporations, primarily Seaworld, cause in containing orcas. Because of the heat, I will be assessing the evidence the movie gives as well as Seaworld's rebuttal, then gauge its strength. This essay is also not limited to the response of Sea World in a orca Related situation.
Do you remember that day that you and your family took a trip to that one park? That one that you got to see many different types of sea animals, dolphins putting on shows, and getting to even interact with the sea animals in a great learning experience. That park is SeaWorld. When you were there, you might have not noticed the stuff that was happening behind the scenes. Lately, the animals have been very sad and not living healthy lives.
A child 's face fills with excitement as they enter a huge building that largely proclaims a sign that says ´SeaWorld. ´ The thrill of seeing animals that they don 't normally see fills the child to the brim. Their elated feelings rise as they walk into the Shamu Stadium, with an announcer welcoming them. They 're so happy that they don 't realize that they 're about to witness inhumane acts for entertainment. Sea World is an inhumane facility, and needs to be shut down.
Sharks are driven to extinction because people want to eat their fins which serves no purpose to humans; shark fins have no nutritional value or serve any medicinal purpose. Finning is the inhumane practice of cutting off all of the shark’s fins and throwing the body back into the ocean. The sharks either drown are eaten by bigger fish or starve to death. Soon sharks are going to become extinct because of the 100 millions of sharks killed every year. If shark finning continues it will throw off the biodiversity of earth.
Playfully dancing through the waters, bashfully approaching swimmers, clumsily squashing into the glass when taken from their oceanic homes, one can 't help being captivated by the social and charismatic West Indian Manatee. My own fascination with the trichechus manatus, or sea cow, as I like to call it, began in the second grade. It 's difficult to pinpoint the exact moment and cause for this obsession, though something tells me it had a great deal to do with the manatee-shaped mailbox I passed daily on my walk to school, and even more to do with the manatee 's wise eyes, paddle-like flippers and rotund bodies. Could anyone help loving such a gentle beast? I certainly couldn 't!
SeaWorld is a billion dollar company based in the U.S. They specialise in the taking care of animals, such as killer whales, dolphins and sea lions. They have over 67,000 animals in their care and are rescuing more and more every day. Despite common belief, SeaWorld does not abuse the animals themselves. The workers of SeaWorld try their best every single day to look after every species of animal, and in return, are now being hassled and abused for it.
Teaching your kids to fish is an activity that comes with plenty of benefits. For one, your children will learn the art of fishing, which can prove very useful at some point in their life. After all, fishing is not just about making a catch, but the effort and patience that goes with it. It also gives kids the opportunity to appreciate the diversity and beauty of nature, especially the world underwater. Fishing can also help kids stay active, especially when the fishing grounds is not easily accessible.
The childhood dream of owning a pet monkey or tiger is a common one, but that’s all that owning an exotic animal should be: a dream. Over 10,000 exotic animals are trafficked into the United States each year, a multi-million-dollar industry on the black market. Owning a wild animal may seem fun and exciting, but with the ownership of such a creature, dangerous consequences follow. The ownership of an exotic animal not only puts the owner 's life at risk, but the animal 's and the environments. There is a common theme among people that it 's humanity 's responsibility to preserve the world we live in, yet there are more tigers in captivity than there are in the wild.
You must have patience because when doing test results on an animal or if your studying an marine organism, it takes days for the results to come in. I have chosen to research about Marine biology because I would like to learn about sea life, the ocean, and its environment. I have learned that when being a marine biologist it takes lots of patience when observing your animals and also when doing test on marine mammals. In conclusion, Marine biology is an important part of all marine life. Marine biologist study and observe fish, dolphins, seals, and other mammals to help the people and also themselves to find new and efficient ways to help
Rights are against the use of force and they are our primary if not only our means of survival. There is only one fundamental right: To live successfully, a man has to make his own choices as well as animals too (Roleff,2014,p.33). There is a huge difference between giving animals their rights which is less than human beings and not to give them rights at all. Nowadays animals are presented in many places of entertainment such as zoos and cruces as well as aquariums where the audients pay a lot of cash to watch fun and exciting things going on, it sure makes us happy but what about the animals are they happy too? Are places of entertainment appropriate for wild animals to live in it normally?
In my opinion, I believe that marine mammals should not be held in captivity for many reasons. To start, they are taking away the animals from their natural habitat. Secondly, captivity causes both major and minor health problems. Another significant reason is that the poor marine creatures do not have enough space to swim resulting in severe boredom and causing them to do harm to themselves Captivity causes many health problems for the innocent marine mammals. There was an incident when Six of Marineland 's seals were blinded, or got serious eye problems because of the unclean water.
Animal Lives Matter Animals are dying from millions of subjected tests every day. All these helpless animals can do is be used and wait till they are no use to us anymore. It is pretty sad one day it’s going to get to the point where the people test on ourselves. Just because scientists or college students need to find a cure for a disease or just simply anything does not mean we need to sacrifice the poor animals in this horrible way. Now there are only three main things to talk about which is people need to know how many animals have been tested on, the drugs that have been used on them and what to do to stop animal testing.
