The topic of refugees has been one of the most controversial topics in today's world and the world of the 1970’s. Many people have many varied opinions on this topic some of which go against the churches catholic teachings such as human equality and the common good.

The indochinese refugees were the first influx of refugees since the removal of the white Australia policy leading to the majority of the Australian public not being very welcoming to the asylum seekers. This goes against the Church's teaching of human equality. Many Australians in the 1970’s were overtly racist towards refugees. The government were helping the refugees but the ones coming by boat were more often than not treated like criminals all of this goes against the teaching of human equality. The racism has also become better as it has mostly disappeared however there is now a lot of tension between different races of immigrants there are even cases of brawls between gangs of different races.

The people that came to Australia in the 70’s did not do so by choice most had to leave their families, friends, home and possessions.
