The Renaissance, that occurred between the 1300’s and 1600’s was a time for improvement and education. The French world for renaissance is re-birth, it is used to describe the amount of change that occurred between the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries. The renaissance started in small towns of Italy, specifically Florence. People such as teachers, artists, and architects were affected the most because their whole system of ideas was flipped over and redesigned, from religion being everything, to teaching about humans. The renaissance was a time for improvement in art, literature, and science which were all interconnected through ideology. Not only did Ideology and Humanism affect artwork, but it also had a major contribution to literature. The Gutenberg Printing Press (11), the first printing press in the world was a perfect example of Ideology, as well as art and science, because it improved the way people around the world learned. One brand new way of teaching to people even long distances away, was within books made by the new printing press. Another example of Literature influenced by humanistic values was the Sonnet 116 (7), a text by Shakespeare. This famous love sonnet by Shakespeare explains human emotions and to value human experiences. This clearly expresses humanistic values because, there is more attention being pursued towards life itself rather than religion day in and day out. The last aspect of Literature affected by Ideology is A Self Portrait of a Universal Man (8), by Leon Battista Alberti. Alberti’s Self Portrait discusses the individual ideals of the Renaissance, and how someone can be their best. Again, rather than religion this self portrait values learning and individualism, how every man and woman is created equally into this world.
