Schools should not appear vulnerable because that attracts threats of an attack. This problem would be eliminated if schools were no longer on the defense side, but instead switched to an offensive front. With knowledge that teachers in a building were armed then shooters would be less likely to attack. Arming the staff would play an intimidating factor towards any threat and would replace fear with safety and insurance. Schools “must be offensive, defense alone won’t work” and this has been proven true, especially with the Sandy Hook massacre where a man shot through the door and security lock and murdered 27 people (“Trump Proposes”). By supplying our teachers with proper training and weapons this places fear in any attacker which will cause a decrease in school shootings and also an increase in safety across America for all schools. …show more content…

There is a belief that the stress would be too overwhelming in such a chaotic high pressure situation that there would be a misfire. Also, that the teacher would accidentally mess up and let the gun fall into the hands of a student or the attacker. Understanding people’s many concerns a series of rigorous training and tests will be put in place and must be passed to carry a gun. Teachers will then have to be checked monthly to make sure their skills are as pristine as any military veteran. Doing this will remove any doubt that the teachers should have guns to defend the students.
