Gentle, Intelligent, and Misunderstood!

Sharks: They are gentle, yet intelligent creatures. You just have to get to know them. Sharks have been stereotyped as scary, bloodthirsty creatures that like to eat humans. But in reality, this is not the true personality of a shark. They simply find us to look like one of their favorite meals: seal. Also, many movies like JAWS, have helped promote the idea that sharks are scary, bloodthirsty creatures. We should protect sharks because if they die, the marine ecosystem might collapse, they are on the verge of extinction, and they have been highly stereotyped.

In 2022, there were 108 total shark attack cases with 57 of them being unprovoked, 32 of them being provoked, and 19 other cases. First of all, most of these unprovoked cases are because the shark thinks that the human is a seal. While there are a lot of these cases there are also a lot of provoked cases. It is ideal for a shark to attack if provoked by a human because they are scared of us. Out of the 19 other cases, 4 are boat cases. If you try to capture a shark it will obviously attack you. There is no excuse or exception to that. NOAA, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, A government organization, states, “Despite their scary reputation, sharks rarely ever attack humans and would much rather feed on fish and marine mammals. Only about a dozen of the more than 300 species of sharks have been involved in attacks on humans.” This means that all of the unprovoked shark attacks are just mistakes and coincidences.
