Teen pregnancy has been a big issue during the past few years and up to this day it still is, Lowen states that “Over 650,000 teens between 15 and 19 become pregnant each year” (par.1). According to some statistics, one would suppose that teens are not being educated enough about teen pregnancy and the impact that it makes in their life, however TV shows have been airing and have shared stories that teens now can relate and acknowledge beforehand. Teen Mom is an appropriate show to avert underage pregnancy because it provides real life experiences from teens, prevents unplanned pregnancy, and shows that parenting is expensive and exhausting.
