1. Nick compares Gatsby’s guests to “…moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stairs” (Fitzgerald 39). By this Nicks is saying that Gatsby’s guest are like moths fluttering back and forth while partying extravagantly with champagne among the stars. 2. This comparison suggests that these people are high class who party in style. 3. Gatsby’s guests arrive at is parties by his Rolls-Royce which acts like a bus picking people up from trains and bringing them to and from the city. 4. On Mondays after his parties Gatsby has eights servants along with an extra gardener clean, mop, and repair any damages all day from the party the night before. 5. Fitzgerald goes into such detail about Gatsby’s parties to properly explain how lavish they were. Thousands of people attend these parties where there are crates of oranges and lemons, colored lights, several hundred feet of canvas, baked hams, and turkeys cooked to a dark gold color. This suggests that the parties are all a show put on by Gatsby because no person even knows who Gatsby truly is and no one is is invited to his parties, they just show. 6.
