Smoking tobacco is one of the most dangerous habits to posses. Tobacco is accountable for just over eight million lives lost in just the past year alone; it has caused more deaths than car accidents, illegal drugs, AIDS, murders and suicides combined. Not only does it cause a slow and unavoidable death to the smoker, it also causes the same grueling death to those around them- friends, family, and colleagues through second hand smoke. Research has shown that “there is no risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke and even short-term exposure potentially can increase the risk of death.”(Health Effects of Secondhand Smoke). Statistical reports on the impact of smoking on Americans show that 269,655 deaths annually among men and 173,940 deaths annually among women are tobacco-related. The only way to prevent people from the hazardous chemicals that tobacco encodes would be to make this addictive substance illegal in and out of our country. …show more content…

Because tobacco is advertised at a high level, it makes it even more appealing to minors to acquire this addictive drug, nicotine. Social media is one of just the millions of ways cigarette companies try to appeal to their most selling buyers, the youth. Not to mention, million of dollars are spent on the promotion of the drug. “More than $25 million every day, or more than $1 million every year.”(Tobacco Facts and Figures) is spent on advocating this substandard narotic. Every day, that tobacco is legal “ approximately 2,100 youth and young adults become daily smokers.” (Fast Facts).
