Have you ever fantasied about being involved in a bank robbery or a high speed pursuit from the police, and get away with it? I bet the first vehicle that comes to mind for a getaway car isn’t a Prius. In early 2016 during everyone’s favorite Super Bowl commercials Toyota launched its ad for the Prius 4. The commercial features four middle aged men in the process of robbing a bank. As they run out of the bank their car is towed away, they find the nearest vehicle which happens to be the Prius 4. The robbers are impressed with the interior features and surprising acceleration as they power slide around corners while pursued by authorities. The pursuit is lengthy as day turns to night and the men develop a fan base for the cars low emissions. At the end of the commercial night transitions back into day as the robbers slowly and quietly slip passed sleeping cops set up as a road block. Toyota has done a good job appealing to the emotions of the viewers. It appeals to excitement as you watch the Prius in a high speed chase. Many cruisers and helicopters are involved and communicating over the radio saying “In pursuit of a Toyota Prius. How hard is it to catch a Prius? This thing is actually pretty fast.” (Toyota, 2016) The drifting around corners or performing a 180 degree spin will get your blood pumping. Toyota also appeals to amuse you with how ironic the whole situation is, a Toyota Prius fleeing from authorities? They exaggerate the vehicles performance and the love that the robbers receive from their fans.
