Children should be vaccinated for MMR because it saves a countless number of lives. Certain people can't get vaccines because they suffer from an immunocompromised diseases like leukemia, and thus become more susceptible to contract the viral infection. According to the “U.S. Department of Health & Human Services”, by getting vaccinated an individual " indirectly protects loved ones and communities". This essentially means that by getting vaccinated it limits and conceivably breaks the chain of infection. For example, if an unvaccinated child contracts either Measles, Mumps, or Rubella then he/she can potentially die from these highly contagious viral infections or spread the contagions to other children. The human body has a very intricate and complex immune system, in which specific immune cells are designated for producing antibodies. In accordance with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, such antibodies are called “lymphocytes and essentially fight off the antigens which are associated with the viral infection”. Therefore, the purpose of lymphocytes is to work with other specialized memory cells to remember and fight pathogens when they enter the body.
