On July 20th, 1874, the first zoo in the united states was opened in Philadelphia. When opened it featured animals in cages with steel bars and cement flooring. Now one-hundred and forty-three years later it’s a sprawling zoo that focuses on educating its attendees and providing amazing enclosures for the animals. The Philadelphia zoo now features a meerkat maze which gives the meerkats a large funnel system to run around simulating their natural habitat; it also features the Big Cat Crossing which allows animals such as the tigers, lions, pumas, and jaguars to travel across walkways providing much needed free space to prowl (About). Zoos are much needed education centers and research locations to study animals and how to better their lives in and outside captivity.
Argumentative Paper Zoos and aquariums have been around since the times of the Romans and the Egyptians. Although the zoos and aquariums have adapted since those times, they still have the same concept behind them. Although zoos and aquariums have been around for ages, over the decades, controversy about these two places have grown. Although most people don’t think anything of it, there is a huge debate as to whether zoos and aquariums are acceptable or not. This topic can be very touchy to some people and can sometimes cause disputes.
A couple of years ago, my family went to Destin, Florida for spring break. We were there for a couple of days and were trying to find something to do. Kenny, my step-dad, thought it would be a good idea to go to this place called Baytowne Wharf (I recommend going there sometime). This place is amazing with many different shops and restaurants like candy stores and even toy stores. Also they have some rides and activities to do in the Baytowne Adventure Zone like a zipline and in my families case, a sky rope course.
Man and nature do not have the best of a relationship, which is proven by the way alligators are murdered just for our clothing preferences. Leather is made from the finest of animal skin including alligator. Many people know someone who owns leather, but would they still own it if they knew how it was made? We should not use alligator skin for leather when they were close to extinction once before (Were Alligators almost Extinct).
Zoos Should Be Banned Imagine you are five years old, someone breaks into your home, kills your aunt and possibly your older brother in the process of kidnapping you. You are separated from your loved ones, leaving your mother in severe pain and grief. You are taken somewhere unknown, imprisoned in a cell where people come watch you for their own entertainment.
I believe that zoos should get a boo. I say this because the workers have to do so much work. Therefore, they get really tired of doing so many things.
Breeding programs can save animals from extinction. Many animals die in the wild every day, and some even have become endangered or even extinct, but when you bring them into the zoo, they are taken to a breeding program to help them re-populate, and then they are then sent to the wild. This helps the other animals in the wild too, since when an animal becomes extinct in the wild it can mess up the food chain, and destroy that community of animals, but with zoos that never has to happen Animals wouldn’t die of starvation in zoos. Many animals die of starvation in the wild due to the shortage of food. In zoos, they will always have food, stopping more animals from dying of starvation.
According to the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA), there are over 10,000 zoos worldwide.(AZA) There are many zoos which increase the amount of animals rescued and people educated. Citizens should support the continuation of zoos. Zoos rescue endangered animals and educate all people.
Isn't the zoo fun? There should be a trip to the zoo in all elementary grades because the zoo is educational, too. ClearingMagazine said that animals are living things and we learn about that kind of stuff. 5th and 4th graders learn about body systems, this could help with learning the animal body systems. 3rd and 2nd graders learn to figure height and weight.
Millions of lives just as innocent as the most generous child; Trapped in the barriers we know as cages, that they know as Hell; Too many lives for humanity to just be a bystander. Each and every day is filled with a million moments and opportunities for us to take a stand and make a change. Animal shelters around the world are constantly filling with new animals; it is simply too much for the small amounts of staff on their own to make sure every animal gets the love they deserve, as well as making sure the shelter is kept tidy and operating. Animal shelters need us, young and old, even if only for an hour. That small span of time can make the world for them; volunteering assures that animals will get daily love, lowers full-time staff stress,
The childhood dream of owning a pet monkey or tiger is a common one, but that’s all that owning an exotic animal should be: a dream. Over 10,000 exotic animals are trafficked into the United States each year, a multi-million-dollar industry on the black market. Owning a wild animal may seem fun and exciting, but with the ownership of such a creature, dangerous consequences follow. The ownership of an exotic animal not only puts the owner 's life at risk, but the animal 's and the environments. There is a common theme among people that it 's humanity 's responsibility to preserve the world we live in, yet there are more tigers in captivity than there are in the wild.
Zoos have always been something that families love and kids look forward to going to. Kids learn about the animals and the habitats and enjoy the entertainment. It is a great experience for people, but not for the animals. Zoos are downright cruel to Animals. Animals our forced to live in an unreal stressful, and boring conditions.
Zoos are places where animals are put on displays and where they have to live their entire life. People can visit zoos for money and watch animals like they are in some kind of television show or commercial program what is done for people only. People have to notice that zoos are not people entertainment. It is seems like animals in zoos should be free and live in wildlife where they belong.
Wondering why animals act a certain way is possibly a question that can never be answered correctly. Asking why animals act a certain way in an environment though, now that may be a question that can be answered! It has become a proven fact that animals act differently in every different environment and around every different animal or person. For instance, take a lion that is being taken from his home environment to a zoo. Of course, that lion is going to act up before he gets used to his environment because of different reasons like the space, or the other animals, or the food and even the training.
Imagine you are taken from your home, mother, and environment to a small cage where everybody is looking at you, taking pictures, and having fun. Your owners sell you to a bad zoo where all animals only get food sometimes and the bare cages are cold because you’re getting too expensive to feed and even take care of. This is why I take the position that zoos should be banned because they can cause Animal cruelty, Too expensive, and finding new homes. Say no to zoos!
