There is an ongoing debate on whether or not NASCAR should be considered a sport. I believe that NASCAR is not a sport for two reasons; it requires very little athleticism, and it is more of a hobby then it is a sport. For these reasons NASCAR should be recognized as a hobby, not as an actual,professional sport. NASCAR requires very little athleticism. The definition of sport is; an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. NASCAR is obviously not physically exerting, the drivers literally just drive around in big circles, and they only lose about 250 calories in a race.. Some people say that it is a sport because they are going so fast, and that is bad reasoning, because it’s still not physically exerting and the speed at which the car is moving does not determine whether or not is a sport. Also, the success of a driver is greatly affected by that driver’s car, while an athlete’s success in a sport should be determined by their own personal skill. Sports should be hard and require skill and very strategic. Although some say it is entertaining, is not very strategic.You ride around in circles and try to go as fast as you can. If we are considering NASCAR a sport, then we should do the same for mini golf, go kart races, and board games sports. Many people have a car and drive it places, should all of those people be considered athletes. Sure, their car might not go as fast but you are still just sitting in a seat with your foot pushing down on the pedal and making a turn every once in awhile. If anyone can do it then should it really be categorized as a sport. NASCAR is an activity not a sport. In conclusion, NASCAR is not a sport. It is not a sport for two main reasons, it is a hobby more than it is a sport, and the second reason is that it not physically demanding at
