Raising Boys to be Men

We are living in a culture that is redefining everything; morals, history, values, beliefs, what's right and wrong and what a family looks like. Because of this, boys and how they should be raised has gotten caught in the middle of the redefinition as gender roles and gender biology itself comes into question. Everywhere you look somebody has an opinion about how boys should be raised.

Should they be raised to be effeminate or masculine? As a christian I believe the goal of raising boys should be to raise them to be masculine. In Genesis 1:27 it says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them.” There is a biological nature that is distinct to boys and girls. Boys should be raised to be masculine for these reasons. A masculine character will greatly benefit the boy and a masculine man will benefit society.

A masculine character will benefit the boy in that he will have more confidence in himself. His identity will be grounded in something strong. He will have a spiritual connection, knowing- who am I, where did I come from, what is my purpose. He will grow in maturity as he learns to do hard things and persevere through life. This will result in healthy relationships since he will better understand his role.

The society benefits when it has masculine men who are committed to defending it from anything that might threaten to harm it, the society is also benefited when a man is committed to upholding the way of life he was raised in and instituting laws and ways of preserving his culture.
