When one looks back at their childhood memories of playing sports, instruments, and drama are often images that appear in their heads. It brings joy to recollect these essential childhood moments because they often played a part into shaping someone into whom they are today. Starting a child off at an early age in extracurricular activities allows for them to have a more advantageously chance at excelling in life in the long run. Extracurriculars can provide enjoyment, structure, opportunity to socialize, learning life skills, and improved health. Playing a sport or an instrument can bring great joy into ones life. Balancing a life schedule can be hard and complicated if it is not done right. Having to juggle not only school, social life, household chores, and free time is already a lot to think about. If a child knows they have to go to practice at 7:00pm they are more likely to decide to do their homework as soon as they get home from school than later. This permits them to have more free time and not have to do it when they come home from practice and are already exhausted. Adding sports into the mix encourages children to be forced to make more appropriate choices with their time. At a young age socialization skills can be extremely low. Children are not fully aware of how to interact with others because of their lack of experience. Playing a team sport allows for kids to meet and interact with others who share at least one same interest and often times more. It helps to establish a social identity and find out who you are by socializing with others. Sports promote social development in children and teach kids how to cooperate and compete with fairness. According to the RWJF/Harvard/NPR survey in 2015 research shows that 78% of parents think sports teach how to get along with others and 65% say that it helps to improve social
