Intro Here in Washington the legal age of drinking is 21, yet all over Washington that law is broke and not followed. Although drinking by people under the age of 21 is illegal, the people that are ages 12 to 20 years drink 11% of all alcohol consumed in the United States. Which is crazy to think underage drinkers drink more than over age drinkers. Americans abuse the use of alcohol, yet underage drinkers abuse it the most. Our economy suffers from this as well for instants, excessive drinking is what is responsible for more than 4,300 deaths among underage people each year and the cost of alcohol in the U.S. is $24 billion in economic costs in 2010. Statistics an Age Groups Alcohol is one the most leading deaths for underage drinkers, most …show more content…
When this happens there more of a risk of them drowning, fighting making bad decisions and other risky behaviors like unsafe sex and drug use. The long term affects are more of heart and central nervous system damage, memory loss, and cirrhosis and cancer of the liver. As you can see there are many things that can affect the children body as they drink underage for so long, slowly hurting themselves an there body. Yet kids can be introduced way earlier than that for instance while in the mother’s womb when mothers drink while pregnant it increases the deaths of their infants inside them or after their born, this usually happens from SIDS sudden infant death syndrome. This is from the mother dinking while pregnant with her baby. Conclusion So now you see how bad alcohol affects underage kids and how they abuse it every day without people knowing. Underage drinkers want to fit in, be cool, be happy and have fun, they think that’s what cool people do, but with each drink they drink they don’t realize its killing there body and changing them. Underage drinking abuse needs to be helped, the kids need the help, and need educated on what happens to their bodies they need cared for and
I agree with the author's point of view in the article “The Danger Lurking in Just One Drink”, by Jeannie Ralston. She provides many statistics that surround teenage binge drinking and how it is negative and dangerous to teenagers. In the beginning, the article starts off with a short story about a girl from Massachusetts, named Taylor Meyer, who was too drunk to find her way home and ended up drowning in a swampy area in the woods. “Your brain on alcohol becomes a dumber, more unpredictable version of itself and the consequences can be catastrophic” (Ralston, p.7). If Taylor had not drank that night she would have been able to find her way home safely and unharmed.
As I read this article, I learned that there are a lot of deaths that occur because alcohol fell in the hands of teenagers. I believe we should do everything in our power to prevent these situations purely because all of this can be prevented. I also believe, that a mix of the way California and Tucson handle underage drinking seems to be more successful tactics than others states mentioned. In this article, there was a lot of talk about deaths that occurred while under the influence. I believe this was a good way to write this article to really try to convince people that drinking is very dangerous for teenagers.
In the Article “Binge drinking Is a Serious Problem for Underage Drinkers” by Emily Listfield there are a series of reasons why underage Binge drinking is against the law and Extremely dangerous. Binge drinking underage has become more common and more deadly. The legal drinking age should be increased because it gives kids/teens more time to mature and more time to think about the consequences of not only underage drinking but binge drinking as well. When kids/teens enter high school or college they are always looking to fit it. In today's society it is not unheard of for a college student to be drinking alcohol, oddly enough high school and middle school students are drinking just as much.
The current alcohol laws both statewide and nationwide, prove unsuccessful and a more efficient way to handle the situation is to educate teens about alcohol to influence them to make wise
One major thing is Alcohol poisoning from a hard night of drinking can cause you to overdose on alcohol and basically die.. Binge drinkers are one of the majorities that are affected from alcohol poisoning. Binge drinkers take in an excessive amount of alcohol in a short period of time and then maybe wait for a month and do it again in one night. Excessive drinking from teens can suffer from blackouts and cause them to forget things very easily. Teens that do regularly drink hardcore are shown to have bad testing scores in school and perform bad in school in general.
Fox News reports that 157 college-age individuals (ages 18 to 23) drank themselves to death from 1999 through 2005.” ( Niagin) By lowering the drinking age the number of alcohol related hospital visits and deaths would be significantly
Consuming alcohol is not healthy to anyone's brain for this reason we should not allow future adults to be able to drink alcohol. Giving adults under 21 the responsibility of handling is hazardous. Adding to this alcohol harms body. “Alcohol interferes with the brain’s communication pathways and can affect the way the brain looks and works. (NIAA)”
When you drink alcohol that temporal lobe slowly starts to get destroyed. Even when drinking at the age of 21 your brain is still developing, so you're slowly killing your brain every sip you take of alcohol. Drinking alcohol can not only lead to alcohol poisoning but it will lead to poor decision making. According to Queensland Health, they state, “We often hear that teenagers can be quick to react, make seemingly poor decisions or act in an irrational way. This is because the prefrontal cortex of their brain, responsible for things like rational thinking, planning, personality, impulse control and language, is still maturing”.
Should the legal age for alcohol consumption be lowered? In the United States, The legal drinking age is 21, but in my research, I have found that it is actually allowed, under certain circumstances and situations, to people of even lower age. Though all 50 US states have set their minimum drinking age to 21, exceptions do exist on a state-by-state basis for consumption at home, under adult supervision, for medical necessity, and other reasons. In fact, all but 5 states, Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, New Hampshire, and West Virginia, under age drinking is permitted. Parents are allowed to furnish alcohol to minors if they are under proper supervision.
Teaching children to drink safely starting while they’re 18 and living with their parents will help them develop healthy habits which will stick with them, helping them drink
People will oppose to this law, but at the age of 18 an adolescent's brain is not fully developed yet. Underage drinking is a common action in today’s society. What kids do not know is the effect that underage drinking has on their brain. Since the brain is not fully developed at the age of 18, drinking
Over the years, the legal drinking age in the United States has been heavily debated. Some argue that the legal age to drink should be 18 or 19 because people at that age are recognized as adults; others argue that the drinking age should be 21 because people who are able to drink should be more mature and have their lives better planned out. Although people are legally adults at 18, they are not yet mature adults; in fact, according to NRP, “emerging science about brain development suggests that most people don’t reach full maturity until the age 25” (“Brain”). Before earning the right to legally drink, people should allow their bodies to fully develop and gain a better knowledge of how to organize their lives. The drinking age should remain
DUI By:Jaskaran You’re outside with your friends having fun and drinking, but its time to go home. You crashed your car because you were drunk and you just killed some innocent pedestrian also now have to pay for your car and go to jail. This is drinking and driving and I am here to tell you why it is bad and you should stop.
Brea, I enjoyed reading your post. I agree on so many things that you discuss about serving teens alcoholic beverages. You are right there are teens that use fake ID and look older than their age. It’s worth the time and passion to carefully check the ID to make sure that person is the right age or the ID is legitimate. This way you will be on the safe side in not breaking the law in selling underage individual any alcoholic.
The second step: I had a dirty mind and consciously evoked negative words, images and thoughts about alcohol. I let my imagination get the better of me here, and I've tried to make the most disgusting things I could visualize ... and then they connected to alcohol. I will not say what they were here because they were pretty bad! But what happened is that after a few days of consciously connect words, images and thoughts of alcohol they were soon joined at the hip. Second step Summary: Visualize the most disgusting photos can with alcohol.
