Perth is a fast developing city in Australia with its growing social, economic and environmental patterns. In “Perth Metropolitan Transport Strategy 1995-2029”, they proposed a vision of“Perth will be a place of vitality and well-being. There will be a sharing of spaces for living, work and leisure activities, which can be reached easily and safely by all members of the community ( Department of Transport, 1995).” There are three main planning strategy are currently used in Perth. Stephenson-Hepburn Plan in 1955 was a very important strategy plan in Perth’s metropolitan region. It is a master plan of Perth which established plenty of planning standards and influencing elements for Perth’s future development (Carr 1979). It mainly focused on the relationship between the land use and future population growth. That was when integrating Land Use with Public Transport becomes to be the dominant planning strategy in Perth. It suggested that to build a self-sufficient community which contains everything people need within the site. It also suggested that workplaces should be in close proximity to residential areas to provide people convenience. …show more content…

That resulted in an increase of car usage, traffic congestion and the imbalance between the relationship between housing and jobs. The Corridor Plan in 1970 has been proposed to solve the emerged urban congestion and residential densities problem. The Corridor Plan consolidated the integration between land use and transport system in Perth. An efficient public transport system in regional centre area and other assisting transport networks around the sub-regional centre areas can provide opportunities of outward development (WAPC, 2010). The Corridor Plan will be a good method to solve the congestion issue and provides more opportunities in Perth metropolitan
