The Temple of Music was Claus Spreckels’ most expensive gift to his adopted hometown of San Francisco. It was a concession to his son, Adolph B. Spreckels, who served very successfully as a park commissioner and who enlisted many members of his class to improve the Golden Gate Park. The document provides a good sense of the bourgeois male club culture of the era. It also gives insights into the German-American network in San Francisco: Now only was Frederick W. Dohrmann (1842-1914) a successful, first-generation, German-American crockery merchant, and, from 1896, the owner of California’s first department store, the Emporium, he was also a driving force of the German Benevolent Society, the German Altenheim, and served as a park commissioner.
When all of a sudden Peter goes to work the next day to find out no one was working in the office, so his boss comes up to him and had told him he has been accused of communist activities. He does not deny it, because it turns out he had joined some type of organization back in his college years to impress a girl whom he had thought he was in love with. Peter really valued his life and his career very much, you could tell just by his actions throughout the film. One night he went for a drive and he had swerved off the road and had crashed to wake up with he had no recognition of who he was. Long story short an elder man found him on the beach mistaking him as his son Luke who had originally died at war and never returned home until now he had thought.
The beginning of his career was with the commencement of “Flying Words”, which is a performance created by himself and his partner, Kenny Lerne. They began by visualizing the story and acting it out, then transferring all the scenes into American sign language and English. Along with that Peter wrote other poems and was able to make a connection with his audience by sharing personal stories. They took it into consideration and were able to understand what it was like to grow up surrounded by hearing people. With the success of his career it led him to extensively travel around the country.
The Perspectives of “The New New” The perspective of a story can and will drastically affect what a reader perceives and believes about a tale. A book’s perspective serves as a window, from which the reader looks through to view the fictional world beyond. Kelly Stuart’s “The New New” has several characters who are led to believe different things based on their perspective. Stuart takes this idea a step further, and using the book’s limited third person narrative, Stuart pulls the reader to believe certain things without evidence.
The Oracle Bones revealed a significant amount about the role the Shang kings played in society. It seemed that the Shang Kings had three major roles in society. They were to be the military commander, the fortune teller and then the connector between the spirits and humans. The idea that the Shang king’s were the high commanders of the military was evident in the bones as the inscriptions discuss how the king could raise “five thousand men to campaign against the Tufang” (Mobilizations). This particular inscription demonstrates how the king was not only the head of all military business, they also had the pull to conscribe.
