Philosophical Worldview The researchers will utilize the constructivist philosophical worldview since it understands the concerns of the elderly women as they experience being placed in Homes for the Aged. Social constructivists believe that individuals seek understanding of the world in which they live and work. Individuals develop subjective meanings of their experiences — meanings directed toward certain objects or things (Creswell, 2013). B. The study aims to understand and explore the lived experiences of elderly women living in Homes for the Aged in relation to their subjective feelings and emotions to the said phenomenon. This type of research is more focused in uncovering the meaning of experience, and the said event, not on the person per se. In comparison, the narrative research approach focuses more on the individual and how they make sense of the experiences rather than utilizing people as instruments in uncovering the meaning of experiences. (Stein, 2016) C. Role of the Researcher Prior to conducting the study, the researchers will contact the home for the aged to inquire whether or not they are open for conducting a study. After the researchers have gained the approval of the home for the aged, a brief proposal will be submitted to the chief administrator in charge of the home for the aged chosen regarding: - the purpose of the study which is to explore and understand the lived experiences of elderly women living in the Homes for the Aged, - what activities will occur at the site during the research study which includes conducting a semi-structured interview to the chosen residents that will be screened base on the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study, - if the study would be disruptive making sure that the researchers will abide by the rules and regulations of the Home for the Aged and will take into …show more content…

Having a severe cognitive impairment such as, Alzheimer’s and Dementia with a score of 0-23 as determined by the Mini Mental State Exam (MMSE) as supported by the client’s medical chart 2. Clinically diagnosed with any psychological disorders such as (Bipolar Disorder, Depressive disorder and etc.) 3. Who is having severe visual and hearing impairments. E. Locale of the Study The main research setting is located within all of the homes for the aged in Cebu City, regardless of whether the institution is private or public. The interviews will be done separately in private rooms or quiet areas in the homes, away from further noises or distractions that may interrupt the interview process. F. Research Instrument The researchers will be using semi-structured interviews conducted face-to-face in order to ask questions and collect data from the informant. A semi-structured interview is a meeting in which the interviewer does not strictly follow a formalized list of questions (Doyle, 2017). Semi-structured interviews consist of several key questions that help to define the areas to be explored, but also allows the interviewer or interviewee to diverge in order to pursue an idea or response in more detail(P. Gill, K. Stewart, E. Treasure & B. Chadwick, 2008). These allow the interviewers to ask follow-up questions to gain a more in-depth understanding of their answers (Doyle, 2017), which help in finding out and understanding the common feelings of
