A superintendent, Gus Sayer, from South Hadley High School informed the staff and students about the fifteen year old Phoebe Prince's death. However, the small town of South Hadley already knew Phoebe Prince was dead. The message about Phoebe Prince’s death was sent out on Thursday and by Friday there was a student-run candlelight vigil on the school's softball field. Local papers began to say students knew Phoebe Prince was miserable at school. These local papers had horrible headlines such as “Teenager Bullied to Death” and “...Phoebe Prince 15, Suspected of Committing Suicide Because of Bullying”. Phoebe Prince, her mother Annie O’Brien Prince, and sister Lauren moved to South hadley but were from the Irish seaside village of Fanore. Annie’s husband and the three oldest children stayed back home, Annie brought the younger two kids so that they can have a different but good experience and be closer to her sister Eileen. In the beginning Phoebe Prince, a beautiful young girl, did not mind being the new student. As school continued Phoebe Prince started a relationship with the captain of the football team, Sean Mulveyhill. A little after Phoebe Prince’s 15th birthday, Sean Mulveyhill got back with his previous girlfriend Kayla Narey. After this Phoebe Prince was no longer on the good side of the popular crowd, this is when the name-calling for Phoebe Prince began. Phoebe smiled and laughed less as she would be called plenty of horrible names on a daily basis. A childhood friend of Sean named Ashley blurted out “I hate stupid sluts”. Ashley liked the relationship her and Sean had but she was average and she knew she was not as pretty or smart as Phoebe or Kayla. Another student named Flannery Mullins began to not like Phoebe either because Flannery did not like that Phoebe would talk to her boyfriend Austin Renaud.
