These boys, Jack and Ralph, both fight for dominance during this novel, whilst grappling with their egos and desires. Ralph is the superior leader in, “Lord of the Flies,” due to his prioritizing the group’s welfare and emphasizing reason over primal instinct. Ralph's leadership prioritizes the group's welfare, he says “We've got to have special people for looking after the fire. Any day there may be a ship out there... ”(Golding 33)

While Piggy faces difficulties due to his looks, he also possesses strength because of his mind. His ability to come up with ideas keeps the society together and running. “‘Ralph!’ Ralph looked up. ‘We can use this to call the others.
In the novel The Lord of the Flies, a group of boys crash-land on an island without adults. Although the boys were quick to appoint a leader, the leadership role struggled to be filled adequately. Leadership is a role not to be taken lightly; a great leader is one with character traits such as patience, intelligence, respect, and communication. Throughout the novel, it was evident that Piggy was the boy with the majority of these qualities (regardless of his lack of confidence—most likely due to the constant bullying he receives from the other boys because of his weight, his asthma, and his glasses).
Bullying is a big issue in society. When authors put bullying into their books it helps people see that bullying is not unseen. In Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card the main character, Ender, gets bullied a lot throughout the book. At the beginning Ender gets his monitor taken out.
On the other hand, Ralph disagrees, he thinks that the "beast" does not exist, and also the gigantic squids that eat whales whole. This quote also shows how Piggy is the brains of the group, everyone goes to him for answers, he's the smartest. Furthermore, it shows that Ralph trusts Piggy, he believes what he says, and how open he is to talking within the group. "They agreed passionately out of the depths of their tormented private lives." - Page 103
Piggy is very intelligent, he comes up with ideas on how to help the boys survive on the island from the moment they crashed on it. Ralph starts begins to admire him for this clear focus on their rescue off the island. “ we can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They'll come when they hear us” (Pg 16)
Overtime, while stranded on an island the children from the book, Lord of the Flies at first are scared about not getting saved. After a while, on the island, the kids realize that they may not be getting saved and they start to go wild and don’t care about life anymore. To try and keep the kids in order Ralph calls meetings to get everyone together and talk about what needs to be done. From the beginning of the book to the end everyone and everything has changed dramatically. Throughout the book there are multiple meetings, each changing every time, but also having similarities to them.
The Lord Of The Flies is a book where leadership, and taking a stand is important. Piggy a boy who is overweight, and is just an outcast that doesn’t fit in the situation he is in. Piggy in the Lord Of The Flies gets picked on constantly, and nobody will help except for Ralph, the leader of the group of boys on the Island that the book is set on, Ralph is the only one to that sticks up for Piggy and, he helps Piggy with difficulties that Piggy has. Jack the boy that bullies Piggy is a stuck up want to be everything. Piggy has the brains of the group of boys, he tries to use his intelligence to benefit the
Ralph never acknowledges that Piggy was the first to point out the conch shell and explained to Ralph what it was. Ralph, instead of giving credit to Piggy for the idea of the conch shell, blows through the conch and then takes charge. Ralph begins giving orders and proceeds to take on the role of chief. Ralph’s authority was made possible because “there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance; and most obscurely, yet most powerfully, there was the conch.” (22).
In “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding, Ralph, Jack, Piggy, as well as the other boys destroyed their society as the Lord of the Flies decayed. They are stranded on a coral island in the World War ІІ era. Ralph is the leader of their group; though, Jack desires the chief position and wishes to create his own tribe in his quest for power. Piggy is an overweight, shortsighted boy with asthma who is bullied by Jack and his followers. He is taking for granted; on the other hand, he possesses the most wisdom out of all the boys.
Powerful or Powerless The novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding is an interesting novel that shows many different circumstances that happen to civilization, for better or for worse, through the actions of children. Ralph, the main character, opens the novel up with Piggy. The two boys are strolling through the woods on this island that they have been stranded on. They had survived a horrible plane crash, fleeing the land that they came from, hoping to find somewhere safer to stay.

This stretch of time also challenged thoughts and beliefs of countless people. During the scientific revolution there were multiple inquisitive explorers that had tremendous impact on the world. Throughout this duration of time I believe the most vital individual was Galileo Galilei.
Ralph nodded. He relaxed his fighting muscles, stood easily and grounded the butt of his spear” (Golding, 177). Piggy is able to stop Ralph with his reasoning. Moreover, Piggy’s logic helps Ralph keep his sanity for the duration of time that Piggy is still alive. Due to the fact, that Piggy is always with Ralph, his rationality helps keep Ralph from becoming a savage similar to the other boys.
